Positive discipline consists of not being permissive or rigid, but a balance: being gentle and firm at the same time. Eliminating rigidity and punishment in a home is not about letting your child do what he wants, but strengthening responsibility and offering limited choices. When children have a choice, they feel more empowered and generate connection.

There are four criteria for effective positive discipline:

  2. Helps children to develop a sense of acceptance and importance.
  3. It is effective in the long run, unlike punishment , for example it works in the short run.
  4. Teaches valuable life skills in building a good character, such as respect, concern for others, problem solving, responsibility, contribution and cooperation.

We cannot forget, that children are children. Therefore, they think how children and their brains are developing. They very much need the support of adults in adjusting their behavior and regulating emotions and not just being criticized for maladjusted behavior.
